Panther Creek Band – Rising 9th Grade Information Sheet
At this time of year, all rising ninth grade band students and parents have important decisions to make. Mr. Robinson has already provided detailed information to all middle school band directors, regarding ensembles, course registration information, and marching band audition information. Below, please find a quick overview of items that will factor into your decision.
Band Choices Available for 9th Graders:
Fall Concert Band: Arts elective that is a class during the school day. Students opt for concert band if they choose not to participate in marching band. Power School registration code: 52552XOANF.
Fall Marching Band: Arts elective that is a class during the school day. Also requires one after-school practice per week (usually on Wednesdays). Power School registration code: 52552XOAW. All 8th graders need to submit an audition cd or music file to Mr. Robinson and Mr. Swofford by April 25th to be considered. Detailed information for auditions is included on the handout from Mr. Robinson, provided by your 8th grade band directors.
***For students who don’t currently play a marching band instrument: If you would like to consider marching band, it is possible to consider another instrument. The student will need to ask Mr. Robinson and Mr. Swofford in advance. In addition, these students can consider Color Guard as an option. Students resume playing their concert band instruments mid-November, following the completion of the marching band season.
Fall Concert Band: Daily band class during the school day. Regular practice time at home by each student.
Fall Marching Band:
Practices: Wednesday – Friday, July 23rd – 25th 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Band Camp)
Monday – Friday, July 28th – August 1st 8:00 am – 9:00 pm (Band Camp -2 hour dinner break)
Tuesdays/Thursdays, August 4th – August 22nd: 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Wednesdays, August 27th – November 5th: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Color Guard (Flags and rifles) and Drum Line have additional practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. They also have additional practices during the summer as well, prior to the beginning of Band Camp.
Fall marching band students participate in home football games, band competitions (all-day Saturday), and local parades. All band students will participate in a winter concert in December.
Color Guard, Drum Line, and Front Ensemble Percussion:
If your band student is interested on auditioning for one of these groups, training sessions/auditions will be held at Panther Creek on Tuesdays, starting April 15th. Final auditions will be held on May 13th.
Spring Rehearsal Attendance:
Marching band wind players are requested to attend one (or all) of the following rehearsals, April 29th, May 6th or
May 13th (3:00pm – 5:00pm).
