Holiday Concerts

December Band Concerts -Please adhere to the following arrival times:

6th grade band – Monday, Dec. 16th, 6:30 – 6:45 p.m.
7th grade band – Tuesday, Dec. 17th, 6:00 – 6:15 p.m.
8th grade band – Tuesday, Dec. 17th, 7:30 – 7:45 p.m.
(if the earlier concert is still going sit quietly in the audience and listen)

Performances will begin promptly at the following times:
6th Grade Band – Monday, December 16, 2013, 7:00 p.m.
7th Grade Band – Tuesday, December 17, 2013, 6:30 p.m.
8th Grade Band – Tuesday, December 17, 2013, 8:00 p.m.

On Monday and Tuesday evenings, December 16 & 17, we will have our December Band Concerts! The excitement in the band room is mounting, and I hope that this is the case at home as well! Performances are a required element of being in a performance class. It’s nice that something as fun and fulfilling as a concert is a requirement! Here are some instructions for students and parents for the days leading up to and the night of the performance that should help things run smoothly.

Concert Attire - Students are required to wear a standard outfit when performing with the Apex Middle School Bands. Please let me know in advance if you feel you will have difficulty obtaining the required concert attire.

• Black dress shoes
• Solid black socks
• Black dress pants
• White dress shirt (no t-shirts)
• Neck tie (optional)
• Black dress shoes
• Black socks or hose
• Black dress pants
• White dress shirt (no t-shirts)

As students arrive to the school, they should report directly to the auditorium. Cases may be left in the car. Students should bring instruments and music inside. Do not play instruments until instructed to do so, which means don’t play on the way to the auditorium, as you’re getting seated, etc. We will assemble on stage behind the closed curtain.

We need your help with equipment, chairs and stands. OnSunday, December 15, 2013 at 1:30, all willing and available parents are invited to meet in the band room and lug, tote, grunt, shove, slide, roll and move all equipment necessary for our fabulous students to put on a wonderful Winter concert. With many hands, it should takeless than an hour. Again onWednesday, December 18th at 3:00, we will be reversing the process, and putting all equipment back into the band room. No need to sign up or contact us, please just show up to help.

Recordings available: For your future listening pleasure/posterity/nostalgic purposes, a recording of the concerts will be produced. All bands will be featured on one disk. Information regarding ordering the recording will be handed out in class and made available on blackboard.

And finally, students will perform for the entire student body onWednesday, December 18th. We will wear AMS Band t-shirts or sweatshirts and jeans for those performances. I'm hoping to make life easier for students and parents alike, and get another wearing out of those awesome band shirts!

Special Note: At the beginning of the year, students received information outlining where parents can find a copy of the AMS Band Handbook on Blackboard, and instructing parents to complete the Band Contract online. A few of you signed the paper form indicating that you had completed the Contract, but did not actually complete the online form. If this is the case, then you have not been receiving email information about band events. If you have not already done so, please go to the AMS Band Blackboard site and complete the Band Contract (found under Course Documents/Band Handook/Band Contract, so that you can receive information and updates from me and from the AMS Band Boosters. Marna Carlson has been sending this information out. We try very hard not to abuse your time by sending out unnecessary announcements.
